Discovery of Historic Objects of Majapahit Government Relics

Dozens of historical objects were found during the excavation process of Gedog Temple in Blitar City. The team from the East Java Cultural Heritage preservation center conducted excavations at the Gedog Temple in Sananwetan District, Blitar City.Although the 1.5 meter deep excavation is still underway, a number of historical objects have been found. Apart from the large bricks, a number of rock reliefs were also found by officers.

From the results of the temporary research of the BPCB team, the relief of these rocks is strongly suspected to be a relic of the Majapahit kingdom.

Even though the condition is not intact, the carvings that characterize the Majapahit kingdom are still clearly visible.

This discovery also strengthens Raffles' findings in the 19th century, which states that Gedog Temple has beautiful carved reliefs.

Apart from the temple, the BPCB team also estimated that there was a petirtaan or bathing place for the gods.

The Blitar City Government hopes that the excavation process can reveal the history of Gedog Temple.

The most important thing in the excavation process is that it does not destroy historical heritage and can become a tourist attraction.

The plan for this excavation will be carried out for 8 days. Later all findings will be collected first before being transferred to the Trowulan Cultural Heritage preservation center.
